Where a dancer's hands bring clay to life

This 13-inch planter with scalloped handles is covered with a satiny, blue-gray glaze. The unusual markings on the wall of the vessel occurred during firing, while it was in its molten state in the kiln.  The handles and the subtle grooves running horizontally down the body of the planter accentuated the dramatic patterns that formed in the glaze.

It piece is part of a private collection in Roxbury, Connecticut.
