Hummingbirds at Dawn

 This tall vase covered with hummingbirds is part of my "Rainbow Vase" collection because of the background colors on which the painting appears. As with an actual rainbow, the colors blend into one another so subtly it is hard to define where one color ends and a new color begins.

On this vase, the background colors gently shift from a rich orange at the base into a light, misty yellow at the top -- suggestive of sunrise.  In addition, only the inside of the vase has been covered with a clear, watertight glaze (so the vase can hold living flowers, if desired). I left the outside surface without a transparent coating over the painting, which gives a soft, velvety finish.
