Where a dancer's hands bring clay to life

This tall thin vase covered with hummingbirds is part of my "Rainbow Vase" collection because of the background colors on which the painting appears. As with an actual rainbow, the colors blend into one another so subtly it is hard to define where one color ends and a new color begins.

On this vase, the background colors gently shift from a soft red at the base into a pale yellow at the top -- suggestive of the afternoon when shadows are just starting to emerge.  Only the inside of the vase has been covered with a clear, watertight glaze (so the vase can hold living flowers, if desired). I left the outside surface without a transparent coating, which gives a soft, velvety finish.

Similar recreations of this vase can be custom ordered  at my  online shop.
