 This rounded vase, covered with hummingbirds, is part of my "Rainbow Vase" collection because of the background colors on which the painting appears. As with an actual rainbow, the colors blend into one another so subtly, it is hard to define where one color ends and a new color begins.

On this vase, the background colors gently shift from a brick red at the base into a bright yellow at the top -- suggestive of noontime sun.  In addition, only the inside of the vase has been covered with a clear, watertight glaze (so the vase can hold living flowers, if desired). I left the outside surface without a transparent coating over the painting, which gives a soft, velvety finish.
