BirdsThe avian spirit permeates the soul of any dancer. The music of Swan Lake is encoded in her DNA, and the image of Firebird’s speed and lightness remains a goal throughout her dancing career. No wonder birds emerged very early in my transition to pottery. Swan Vases |

In the summer of 2007 I had the remarkable experience of hand-feeding a juvenile Rubythroat Hummingbird. I had noticed him struggling at the feeder because he had a serious beak injury. Although I knew the bird probably would not survive, I devised a hand-held feeder with a wide enough opening to accommodate his deformity. To my amazement, he came to me almost at once, sat on my hand and gulped the nectar. Within days, he became so tame, I could whistle for him, he would shoot out of the trees like a little bullet, and greet me eagerly (and hungrily). Sometimes, after he had been satiated, he would remain on my hand, looking into my eyes… and time stood still. Our relationship went on for several unforgettable weeks. Early in 2008 his image (healed) began to appear on my pottery. Windancer Platter ~ 7"x13"
